Yes And...

Yes And…, a programme of regular youth activity at The Garage was first piloted as a project early in 2016. Students from Nelson and Colne College developed an exhibition in Brierfield Mill, CURVE, opening in the Summer of 2017. CURVE explored topics the students felt were ‘things worth fighting for’ and included artworks exploring fracking, beauty ideals and bullying amongst other things. The exhibition, which also included artists found via an open call, was accompanied by a weekend-long programme of activity. This project was supported by interns  Elly Langlois and Katie Nolan.

Now, Yes and… seeks to challenge the ways in which, for many, creative ideas are often met with a Yes but… Instead, Yes and… provides a positive space for those ideas to be developed. Yes and… is a programme for secondary school students aged 11-16. Yes and… began in response to cuts in the provision and the way that art is gradually disappearing from secondary curriculums, and the closure of safe spaces to meet outside of school

This project was funded by - Arts Council England through Super Slow Way
