Creative Collaborator

Artist fee: £2948 (11 days @£268 In-Situ standard day rate)
Materials budget: £5,000
April-July 2026
Location: Nelson and surrounding area, Pendle, East Lancs

Apply by Monday 16th March, 12 noon
Selection on Thursday 19th March (we'll arrange informal Zoom calls with shortlisted people)

We are looking for a creative collaborator - an artist with skills in visual communication, illustration and/or graphic design and experience in communicating complex themes around climate and social justice. You’ll be bringing your own creative methods to help us to document and communicate Climate Lab Pendle, creating an illustrative series of visual guides for a range of settings.

You will join the programme's newly formed Leadership Collective* to document conversations as visual notes, drawing out key themes, ideas, aims and approaches. A key date is a team residential at Whitehough Activity Centre, in Pendle, 25-26th April 2026, where you will be visually documenting the 2 days of conversations and activity as well as joining in as much as you wish.

You will then develop these into visual displays at various scales, for public realm, including window vinyl, as pop-up displays to take into venues and as digital assets. This work will be an important part of launching the programme at Pendle Festival of Culture in Nelson on 27th June 2026. It will introduce the thinking, aims and the way this work has evolved so far to more local groups, workplaces, faith centres and social spaces, including pubs.

You will work collaboratively with the team on developing the narrative content and material elements, and In-Situ will be responsible for arranging any public realm installation.

*The Leadership Collective is a newly convened group of 12 people collaborating on leading the programme. It is a diverse group representing local residents, young people, artist-facilitators, climate and social justice practitioners, In-Situ team and Board and partner organisations.

Climate Lab Pendle is a creative, local, collaborative exploration of the intersecting crises of climate, inequality, hate and mis and dis-information. A collaboratively led programme, it aims to build knowledge, discernment, capacity for listening and navigating conflict, an increased sense of agency and collective action. It prioritises diversity of leadership, putting local voices in dialogue with decision makers.

In-Situ is a quietly radical, community embedded arts organisation, based in Pendle, East Lancashire. We are working between art, community and ecology to produce socially and locally relevant art that makes a positive difference to everyday lives. We have a unique flat organisational structure, which we call a Fluid Structure with equal pay, consensus decision making and equal say. This underpins the way we work with others for individual creative development and life skills, collective action and systems change.   Our art challenges 'business as usual' thinking about environment people, place and culture. Our art is an art of action. Our art contributes to society as a whole. Together we are reimagining the structures and processes that underly an (arts) organisation and its place in wider society and in everyday life.

Volunteering

We occasionally have opportunities to volunteer. You would gain some experience of working in the arts in a community setting, meet new people, have new experiences and receive relevant training and support.
