40@40 marked forty years since the creation of Pendle borough council in 1947. Coincidentally, it also marked the 40th birthday of In-Situ co-founder, Paul Hartley, as well as the anniversary of Pendle’s twinning partnership with the town of Creil, France. In celebration, an invite was extended to people in Pendle and Creil who were approaching their 40th birthday to contribute to a collaborative book. Led by artist Philippe Handford, the project culminated with an installation of Christmas tree baubles at where Nelson Library as well as a giant birthday candle sculpture, with faces of participants, projected onto it, in Nelson town centre.
