A radio station embedded in the everyday lives of Brierfield’s community.

In 2016 our artist-in-residence, Helmut Lemke, returned to In-Situ with a proposal to create a community art radio. For 9 months, during his residency, he set up and ran the ISBCA (In-Situ Brierfield Community Art Radio), which started broadcasting on 6th July 2016. Helmut created a platform as an opportunity for any resident to share their story and an learn how to present their own show. He welcomed local people to produce programs and aired live sessions 3 days a week.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

The project proved hugely successful and when Helmut’s residency came to an end we weren’t ready to bid farewell to the radio station. So in 2017, our radio relaunched with a new Radio Manager, Hussnain Hanif. Located at Brierfield Community Centre, the radio station aimed to broadcast 24/7 with pre-recorded content and intermittent live shows, including thought provoking material created and broadcast by students and Nelson and Colne College.

During this time, we started to experiment with podcasts <insert page link>  and have since found these to be more successful in reaching a wider audience where people could access content when they wanted.  ISBCA Radio is now creating content via podcasts, which will include interviews with artists, other practitioners and the community, including The Friendly Society <insert page link>, a new podcast project with the over 60s in Brierfield. There will also still be the occasional live broadcast, so keep an eye out for these.
