A radio station embedded in the everyday lives of Brierfield’s community.

In 2016 our artist-in-residence, Helmut Lemke, returned to In-Situ with a proposal to create a community art radio. For 9 months, during his residency, he set up and ran the ISBCA (In-Situ Brierfield Community Art Radio), which started broadcasting on 6th July 2016. Helmut created a platform as an opportunity for any resident to share their story and an learn how to present their own show. He welcomed local people to produce programs and aired live sessions 3 days a week.

The project proved hugely successful and when Helmut’s residency came to an end we weren’t ready to bid farewell to the radio station. So in 2017, our radio continued for another year with a new Radio Manager, Hussnain Hanif. Located at Brierfield Community Centre, the radio station aimed to broadcast 24/7 with pre-recorded content and intermittent live shows, including thought provoking material created and broadcast by students and Nelson and Colne College.
